Sophie Lippert, Piano Teacher
Sophie Lippert is a professional classical pianist and teacher. She has played voraciously as a soloist and chamber musician alike, and has been praised for her sensitivity, dynamism, expressiveness, and evocative musical maturity.
Sophie began her piano studies at the ripe age of 3, and was taught by renowned Suzuki teacher Rita Hauck in Cincinnati. Soon after moving to Seattle at the age of 9 and beginning lessons with Yunbo Cassady (Washington MTNA Chair), Sophie entered the competition circuit, and quickly began earning solo concerto performances with youth and semi-professional orchestras around the area. The highlights of her youth performance career were spectacular performances of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue with the Seattle Philharmonic at Meany Hall and the Seattle Symphony at Benaroya Hall in Seattle. Also an accomplished cellist, she was principal cellist in the Cascade Youth Symphony for three years.
Sophie attended the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, where she received her degree in Classical Piano Performance under the tutelage of the inimitable Jon Kimura Parker. While at Rice, Sophie won repeated accolades in the university concerto competitions, and was a sought-after accompanist and chamber musician. She headlined a university-wide concert as soloist with Ravel's Concerto in F, and graduated summa cum laude. While living in Houston, Sophie was hired as accompanist for the Galena Park School District, where she accompanied 7 area choirs for many concerts and competitions. After moving to Portland in 2011, Sophie began to teach private piano lessons, and developed her warm, playful, attentive, enthusiastic, and dedicated teaching approach--which she continues to use with great success. Her love of teaching is infectious!
Between musical endeavors, Sophie worked in the fine dining industry in Houston, Texas, and in 2012 became sole proprietor of Vibrant Studios, an art, yoga, and wellness collective that joyfully closed its doors in February 2018. She currently divides her time between teaching and playing music, and working as a copywriter, business consultant, and strategist for visionary entrepreneurs. Sophie loves facilitating community experiences (particularly those that utilize the mediums of music and food to spark conversation and connection), and also derives great joy from dancing, cooking, eating exotic foods, writing (with impressive verbosity, no less), traveling, and being of service. In 2018, Sophie will be onstage for solo and collaborative recitals in Tucson, Yuba City, Seattle, and Portland, and more.
Sophie is an active OMTA member, and is available for private lessons.
